Nightmare -- Information

Nightmare  (ナイトメア) was created when Siegfried picked up Soul Edge. He has since then has wreaked havoc all across Europe, known by many simple as the "Azure Knight". He was injured by a nearly dead Raphael, who had pierced him with his rapier. This what allowed Siegfried & Nightmare to separate once more. Thanks to Zasalamel, he now has power over his own body. He now seeks a new host for Soul Edge and wishes to kill Siegfried.

Nightmare & Tira

After being cut off from the Birds of Passage, Tira had tried to fit into daily life once more. However she soon discovered she simply could not leave behind her old lifestyle and began traveling. This is how she learned of Nightmare and his doings. She decided that they were kindred spirits and took off after him. When they did meet, she quickly submitted to him and offered to do his bidding. The relationship between Nightmare and Tira is clearly one of master and its pawn.

In the past, Nightmare has had other people doing his bidding, Ivy, Lizardman and Astaroth among the few. With his body finally restored slightly and ready to reach his goals once more, he knew he would eventually need help. When Tira came along, he was happy to fufill the role of being on her pedestal if it meant her doing his bidding. He sees her as willing, naive, and eager to please. She sees he meets her approval and so much more.

"What is the meaning of this, wretched servant!" -- Nightmare

However it is very obvious in his storyline that he is just using her. He plans to finish her off eventually and take her energy. He'll use her till he gets what he wants or she is no longer useful. It would also seem later on down the line that Soul Edge has plans for her as well, plans that maybe even Nightmare is not aware of right away. Or perhaps he does know that Soul Edge will eventually use her. Till then however, it is obvious that Tira has a sort of blind loyalty towards him.

"To cling onto the visage of that man for so long." -- Tira

Yet when her mood changes at one point, she approaches Nightmare at the castle. She is distraught, confused and angry over why she chose to be with Nightmare. Its not really clear why she feels this way. She often changes moods when something and someone no longer meets her approval or makes her happy. So perhaps it is something that Nightmare did? Either way in his storyline, she attacks him. He does not feel any sort of remorse for getting rid of her either, for she was just mearly a pawn to him, nothing more, nothing less.

"Humph. So this is the new host" -- Soul Edge

However there is her one ending of her becoming the new host for Soul Edge after failing to get close to Sophitia's children. It is intresting to note that Soul Edge chooses to take her over right after saying "I get irritated just thinking about him". Assuming the him is in reference to Nightmare. It would seem she that perhaps she was starting to doubt him as she did in Nightmare's storyline.

Who knows how she will interact with Nightmare in the next installment. Perhaps the roles will be reversed? Perhaps they will be enemies?
